Training : Sadhana Mala Yoga Training

Introductory Course (aYs)

In conjunction with the Association of Yoga Studies (aYs) we run a 2 day Introductory Yoga course for people wishing to develop their yoga knowledge beyond the average group class content. We introduce key ideas from the core text of yoga, the Yoga Sutras, and we begin to learn to chant from this text. We also deepen the theoretical understanding of yoga postures and breathing and explore the history of yoga from its ancient origins to its modern application.

This course is a pre-requisite for the Foundation Course (unless there are exceptional circumstances).

Foundation Course (aYs)

In conjunction with the Association of Yoga Studies (aYs) we teach a 10 day Foundation Yoga course usually run over 5 weekends. This course is recognised as being equivalent to the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course. The course further deepens our understanding of the philosophy of yoga from the Yoga Sutras and also develops our practice in considerable detail. We explore different types of asana practice (body based), pranayama practice (seated breathing) and also chants and meditation. We also examine specific postures in considerably more depth.

This course is a pre-requisite for the Teacher Training Programme (unless there are exceptional circumstances).

Teacher Training Programme (BWY accredited)

The Sadhana Mala Teacher Training Programme is currently the only course recognised by aYs (association for Yoga Studies) and it is in the process of being accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga.

This course focuses on developing the skills to work as both a group teacher and also an individual teacher of yoga. It is a big commitment - almost 50 per cent more than the standard British Wheel of Yoga course, but we feel it is an excellent training which gives a thorough grounding in the philosophy, application and practice of yoga.

The Teacher Training Programme runs over 3 years with 6 long weekends a year. These are either 3 or 4 days in length.

Our next planned course is in Taunton, Somerset starting in early 2009.

Testimonials:

"On my first night of group teaching .... was an overwhelming sense of security  that I had been taught the skills and tools needed to be a professional and sincere teacher  The outlay for the course can feel quite daunting but I have come to see it as a wise investment in my future.  Dave and Ranju's partnership provides teaching which is grounded in years of study and practice, confidence and belief in the approach and tradition but also innovation to apply the teaching into a current dialogue.  They are real and down to earth humorous but also with high expectations of our role as teachers"
Marie, London

"Ranju and Dave's combined experience and skilful teaching have made for a valuable and enjoyable course. I feel well prepared to enter the world of yoga teaching"
Rich, London

"I value the course for the breadth of topics covered, their depth and the clarity and sensitivity with which they are presented. I appreciate the teachers for their experience and their unreserved willingness to share this experience, their approachability and their immense integrity and sincerity."
Sabine, London

Conversion Course: The Art of Individual Teaching 2008-10

Many who have already trained as yoga teachers feel the need to deepen their knowledge of this approach and wish to train further with us. This new course is designed for qualified teachers wishing to work with individuals and also with a more therapeutic focus. It is an exciting opportunity to become grounded in a yoga methodology with strong roots.

The course runs for forty days, (15 days once a fortnight over 30 weeks and a 5 day residential per year).

Our first course starts at the Yoga Biomedical Trust in London in September 2008.

Advanced Training Programme 2009-11

For those who have completed the full Teacher Training Programme or equivalent and wish to continue their studies we are planning a 2 year Advanced Training Programme. We have not yet finalised the details but we hope to have something more firmly established in the near future.

We will be looking to start the course towards the end of 2009.
