Jyotish with Mike Young

Are you Mercurial by nature ? Perhaps you are a Jovial sort? Maybe a Saturnian preferring the shadows to those sunny souls who prefer to be at the centre of it all? Perhaps you dance to the beat of a Martial drum, or sway more towards coy graceful Venus, or are intoxicated by a bewitching receptive Moon...

About Mike

Mike qualified as a Yoga Teacher in 1992 and has taught in many varied situations including Schools(students and staff), special needs residential care, businesses, the NHS, and for the past 12 years I have taught yoga and meditation in prison, something whichhas been particularly challenging and rewarding. In 1995 Mike met Hart deFouw for an Indian astrology reading and was so intrigued by the experience that it was instrumental in prompting him to begin a course of study in Jyotish (astrology) and palmistry with Hart in the UK and latterly in America. Mike has now been studying with Hart for over 15 years. Mike now specialises in giving personal Jyotish readings and is fascinated by the links between Yoga and Jyotish, which in India is taken somewhat for granted, but in the West is a largely unknown and misunderstood relationship.

Indian v Western Astrology

There are differences between Indian and Western Astrology, some of the main ones are: Whereas in Western Astrology a lot of importance is attached to the Sun sign in describing your nature, in Indian Astrology we look at the Ascendant, the constellation that was 'being born' over the eastern horizon at your time of birth. The position of the Moon at your birth is seen as important in assessing the quality of a person's life. How they interact with their environment and the people within it, and the level of satisfaction they will derive from that interaction. It is a Soli-Lunar system. Not only is there a solar zodiac with 12 constellations but there is also a lunar zodiac with 27 mansions, or houses that the moon moves through each month. It is a predictive system that is based on the position of the Moon at birth.
